Staying on the Island of Carna offers you an excellent opportunity to visit the Ardnamurchan Peninsula. Leaving the boat at Glenborrodale, you can explore the whole of this magnificent and unspoiled part of the Country. Suited for those who wish to relax and unwind and also those who enjoy outdoor pursuits.

Hill Walkers will be delighted to discover the hills surrounding Glenborrodale, including an eight mile marked track which starts from Glenborrodale Castle past Loch Laga on  Ben Laga (1,679 ft ), to Acharacle Village. There is the Glenborrodale R.S.P.B. Reserve where there are some lovely shorter walks to view the Wildlife in the area.

For Wildlife Boat Trips: Our caretaker Andy Jackson runs the Charter Boat 'Laurenca' which leaves from Laga Bay - Glenborrodale on Wildlife Trips to see the Seals, Whales etc. and Trips to Tobermory on the Island of Mull. He can pick you up from the Island of Carna.

Kilchoan

Mingary Castle

To the West of Glenborrodale, 3 miles away there is the Ardnamurchan Natural History & Visitor Centre. Further West we have the village of Kilchoan where you can visit the ruins of Mingary Castle built in the 13th century. Or catch the 'Kilchoan - Tobermory' Car Ferry and explore the Island of Mull. There is the Visitor Centre on Ardnamurchan Point and Lighthouse - the most Westerly Point on the British Mainland! and Sanna Bay with its beautiful White Sands

Acharacle Village

To the East there is the villages of Salen, Acharacle and Strontian, each with own variety of interesting sights and pursuits.
The nearest Town is Fort William with it's backdrop of Ben Nevis, which is approx. one and a half hours away.

The Island is shown on most road atlases - look up Glenborrodale.

Glenborrodale is situated halfway along the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, reached by taking the Corran Ferry from the A82 Fort William road across to Ardgour, the A861 to Strontian and Salen, then 6 miles to Glenborrodale along the North shore of Loch Sunart on the B8007 to our Car Park (Grid Reference: NM618607), opposite the Clan Morrison Hotel, where you will be met by Andy & Allison and transferred by boat to Carna Island.
